Khammam Forest District

Khammam Forest District operates under the Telangana Forest Department and is responsible for the protection, conservation, and management of forest resources within its jurisdiction.

The district consists of two territorial forest divisions:

  • Khammam Division – headed by Sri Ch. Krishna Prasad, ACF
  • Sathupally Division – headed by Smt. V. Manjula, ACF

In addition, the District Task Force Range functions under the District Forest Officer and focuses on enforcement and protection activities.

Khammam Forest District integrates scientific forest management with field-level implementation, community participation, and ecological restoration to ensure long-term sustainability of forest ecosystems.

District Demography & Forest Coverage

Khammam Forest District has a forest area of approximately 639.61 hectares, within a geographical area of 4,361 sq. km, covering nearly 14% of the district.

Forests are spread across multiple mandals including:

Konijerla, Raghunadhapalem, Khammam Urban, Singareni, Kamepally, Jamalapuram, Yerrupalem, Enkoor, Tallada, Penubally, and Sathupally.

The district also includes 15 Compensatory Afforestation (CA) lands, where plantation and conservation activities are being implemented.

BIODIVERSITY & WILDLIFE

Khammam Forest District is rich in flora and fauna, supporting diverse forest ecosystems and wildlife species.

  • Indian Bison (Gaur)
  • Sloth Bear
  • Spotted Deer (Chital)
  • Peacocks
  • Hyenas
  • Various bird species

The department continuously works towards habitat protection, biodiversity monitoring, and promoting coexistence between wildlife and communities.

Wood-Based Industries & Livelihood Support

Khammam district has strong potential in wood-based industries, especially teak and non-teak products.

The district currently has 122 sawmills, supporting local markets and contributing to the regional economy.

Community Participation & Conservation

Community participation is central to forest conservation. Through Vana Samrakshana Samithis (VSS), local communities actively contribute to protection, plantation, and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
